An impact wrench and an impact driver both hit hard in short bursts. That shared name sends plenty of buyers toward the wrong tool. The wrench is made to turn sockets on heavier nuts and bolts. The driver is made to turn bits, screws, and smaller fasteners quickly without asking you to wrestle a larger tool into place.

The useful question is not which one has the bigger number on the box. It is what you are trying to turn. A wheel lug, axle nut, or suspension fastener calls for a different setup than deck screws, cabinet hardware, lag screws, or a long day of assembly.
